Anika Awasthi - Fashion Designer & Textile Artist

We shrink away from the darker parts of the world, but in her work Anika hopes to communicate the beauty that can exist within these off putting subjects. She utilizes textiles, fashion and texture to depict anatomy, horror and viscera which allows a viewer to and handle and confront these uncomfortable accepts of life. Her practice incorporates various dyeing techniques, embroidery, beadwork, quilting and distressing. In addition she uses these lenses to explore her Indian heritage, integrating traditional Indian textiles practices to aid her exploration in beauty and the grotesque.

Anika is currently a student at School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her work has been exhibited at Fine Lines Art Gallery and Oak Park Art League.
